End of Semester 1

I am finding it hard to believe that semester 1 is over after today. Over the years that I have worked for Shakopee, this year has gone by the quickest. I can think back to last year at this time and remember how excited I was that my classes would be changing with different groups of students. This year I am slightly sad, as I really enjoyed the groups of students I had for all of my classes.

One thing I am looking forward to for 2nd semester is the credit recovery class that I am picking up. I will be working with a lot of our struggling students who failed 1st semester algebra. I know they are going to be a harder group to work with, but the feeling of accomplishment when they do pass and earn their credit will pay off.

What is everyone looking forward to for the 2nd half of the school year? Can you believe its already here?

  1. Hi Jennifer,
Congrats on the credit recovery class--That sounds like a worthwhile experience--I know the kids appreciate the opportunity!!
I think I am looknig forward to most is running a group and having more time to spend with my students, as I am not teaching this spring. I am struggling realizing how quick this year has been going. The first week of second semester is almost over and I feel like it happended so fast!
Hopefully, this second semester will be as great as the first semester!

  2. Can't believe it either - time flies with every year that we age! I'm most looking forward to having the time to get into more classrooms to see what awesome things are happening. I wanted to be in there more often in the fall but with the amount of planning and preparation for workshop/staff development days, seminars or workshops, VT, PGO's, district committees - there wasn't enough time. But, now that I'm between only two schools (and most of the planning is done) - I can learn from observing.

A credit recovery class is essential for these students. Coaching question: You mentioned they would be a harder bunch. Thinking ahead to the next lesson or unit, what strategies have you considered using with this particular group of students? Thinking to the END of the semester, what impact might this group of students have you?
